Tommy Singer was born in 1940 in Winslow, Arizona and grew up in the small community of Dilcon on the Navajo reservation. He learned the art of silversmithing from his father. In the 1960's, Tommy became famous for inventing the use of turquoise and coral chips in silverwork referred to as "chip inlay" jewelry. Chip inlay became so popular that many artists began copying the method and every Native American jewelry store now carries some form of chip inlay. Today, he and his family also specialize in traditional heavy stamp work and overlay jewelry.
